Homosexuality and religion
He believes in gay marriages. How does that square with church? What's that got to do with it? That's just what I do on Sunday's. Is that the way we're supposed to think? I don't think so right? Todd Akin, R-Mo. He can forget about winning Indiana for a lot of reasons. That will just be one more added to the pile. As a trained geologist who worked in the energy industry, he speaks with authority on the need for more domestic production, as well as the dangers of global-warming alarmism.
The St. Louis County on Saturday. As gay-rights groups staged a peaceful protest outside the First Evangelical Free Church, conventioneers spent the day inside, mostly listening to speakers who say they were previously gay. Parents of gay and lesbian children got advice and could speak to counselors about what to do, short of accepting their child's behavior… The Love Won Out event was sponsored by Focus on the Family, a conservative Christian group that Fryrear works for in Colorado, and Exodus International, an umbrella group of ministries by formerly gay people.
The conference is in its eighth year, but this is its first time in St.
Organizers say the turnout of 1, was the largest of their 37 U. Organizers said people came from 28 states. Most in the audience were parents and family members of gay people, while about one-fourth were ministers… Conference speakers hawked books outside. Clearly, the goal of Focus on the Family's Love Won Out traveling conference is to deny gay people equal rights. Focus on the Family claims they will now reach millions of people with their anti-gay propaganda and distorted science.
Although the program does not track the number of people who have made the decision to become ex-gays, Focus says more than 50, gay people and family members have attended 52 conferences around the country in the past decade. They are devastated when a loved one is living homosexually. They can't condone what falls outside biblical truth.
Focus on the Family launched Love Won Out in to educate and equip Christians on how to respond to the issue of homosexuality in a biblical way, and has traveled to more than 50 cities worldwide with its message of truth and grace. The conference has always featured Exodus speakers and highlighted Exodus member ministries. They have stood alongside us in sharing the hope that, with Christ, transformation is possible for those unhappy with same-sex attractions. And we will stand alongside them as they continue to share that message as the organizer of Love Won Out.
Focus on the Family will continue to support the Love Won Out conference financially, and by providing speakers and marketing support. We affirm the Scriptural teaching that homosexuals can and do change their sexual identity 1 Cor. We support counseling and the availability of professional therapy options for unwanted homosexual attractions and behavior. Just as there are many paths that may lead a person to experience same-sex attractions, there are likewise multiple ways out. Thus, individuals and their helping professionals are called to discern and pursue the most appropriate approach that best enables them to steward their sexuality in alignment with their chosen values.

Sexuality is a glorious gift from God — meant to be offered back to Him either in marriage for procreation, union and mutual delight or in celibacy for undivided devotion to Christ. Homosexual behavior violates God's intentional design for gender and sexuality. The Restored Hope Network announced its formation and first conference recently.
Restored Hope members specialize in helping men and women with unwanted same-sex attractions, but many of them also provide support for those recovering from sexual abuse or sexual addiction, along with information and help for their family and friends….. I could go on, of course, but the good news is that Jesus came to call us to repent, to tell us the truth, to seek and save the lost and to bring healing and restoration through his death, burial and resurrection.
Sometimes he heals and restores people directly and immediately. More often, the church is to be the vehicle: providing counseling, offering hope, training in spiritual disciplines, teaching the truth, and walking alongside hurting people. The reality is that while Exodus will no longer exist, there are numerous Christian ministries that continue to provide excellent help to those struggling with unwanted same-sex attraction, including the Restored Hope Network, Desert Stream Ministries, and Katharos Integrity Alliance.
But we also realize that all of us sin in many ways…. Many times it takes counseling, Bible study, prayer and community support — but it can be done. There are some factors that seem to be more significant in people struggling with same-sex attractions. One of the things we know about homosexuality is that guys who struggle have been molested three times more often than men in the general male population.

What does this say about me that this happened to me? If there are problems in the parental relationship, that can affect a kid. A girl who rejects her femininity could grow up longing for what she already has inside her. I know several women whose dads treated them like little boys — they wanted a boy and they treated them like boys, so these girls became very masculine. Some women reject femininity because they see women being weak or passive or abused; some women, and men too, have turned to homosexuality for political reasons or out of rebellion against societal norms.
Efforts to advance rights and protections for homosexuals often place a higher priority on an individual desire to parent, rather than a child's need for a mother and a father. Today, it is not enough to promote the practice of adoption; we must also defend adoption against initiatives that would distort its purpose. As evidenced by the fight for adoption rights by same-sex couples, the current movement to protect and promote homosexual rights threatens the adoption arena and children's best interests. Rather, children have a right to grow up with the love that only a mother and a father can jointly provide.
Adoption placements should acknowledge that placing a child in a family structure with a married mother and father is in the child's best interest. Unfortunately, current anti-discrimination policies and judicial decisions often negate the best interest of children in the name of tolerance and equality.

I do not like books that try and convince me to believe differently. I, however, enjoy books that ask me questions and challenge my current beliefs. This book was written in such a way that had me questioning many of my current beliefs in a very respectful and eloquent manner. I highly recommend. Then, in his 20s, he decided to attend a young adult retreat for Catholics, where he met other gay Catholics like himself. He said it helped him reconcile his sexuality with his faith and brought him back to God. About two-thirds of American Catholics say it is acceptable for same-sex couples to raise children, and many Catholics support changes to key teachings on policies like birth control, according to a study.
While churchgoers attitudes are evolving, Freml said, many within the Catholic hierarchy are more wary of change, especially on LGBTQ issues. In December, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops issued an open letter that rejected the legitimacy of transgender identities. The letter echoes statements made by Pope Francis, who in October denounced medical technologies that allow transgender people to transition.
Pope Francis has been more ambiguous concerning his stance on homosexuality, according to Freml. Some leaders within the church have been more critical of the issue, Freml said. In June, Bishop Thomas John Paprocki , who heads the Springfield Roman Catholic Diocese in Illinois, issued a decree instructing priests to deny communion and church burials to parishioners in same-sex marriages. Freml said he believes the church will evolve its stance on issues like same-sex marriage and gender identity as pressure to do so is driven from the pews. According to a study, about half of U.
